Mandy Moore will headline Hulu’s upcoming drama The Land, reuniting with creator Dan Fogelman of This Is Us. The 42‑year‑old actress and singer confirmed the role in a recent Variety interview.

She described the premise, saying, “If you love football, if you love family drama, it’s like Friday Night Lights and Succession all kind of rolled into one,”. The show centers on the daughter of an NFL team owner who must carve her own path in a male‑dominated arena.

She wasn’t a big football fan before the project, noting, “I still feel like I have so much to learn. I had some fantastic meetings with some incredible women that are in similar roles at different organizations at the NFL. I’ve been able to pick their brains a little bit,”. Those meetings helped her understand the league’s inner workings before filming began.

She joked, “I joked I felt like Taylor Swift, where I was like, ‘Oh, I got to learn all about this.’ I mean, it’s different when your boyfriend‑slash‑husband is like a player, but I truly knew nothing.”. She admitted the learning curve was steep because her character’s partner is depicted as a football player.

She added, “I get to play this bada**, a woman in a man’s world who her entire life she’s been gunning for this one job and will do absolutely anything and breathes this air of sort of desperation and entitlement,”. The actress enjoys portraying someone so different from her own personality.

In The Land, she will play Lauren Durkin, the daughter of NFL team owner Hank Durkin portrayed by William H. Macy. The series also features a supporting cast of actors playing league executives and coaches.

The drama is slated to debut on Hulu later this year, adding another sports‑centric series to the streamer’s lineup.
