In recent years, Katy Perry has been less visible in the media, but that’s about to change. The pop star has been announced as part of the crew for the upcoming Blue Origin space mission aboard the New Shepard rocket. The news was confirmed by the aerospace company, owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

What makes this mission even more historic is that it will feature an all-female crew—the first of its kind since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963. Alongside Perry, the team includes TV host Gail King, former NASA rocket engineer Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics scientist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Keriann Flynn, and journalist Lauren Sanchez, who is also Jeff Bezos’ fiancée.

The mission is planned for spring 2025, though an exact launch date has not yet been revealed.

Interestingly, the crew selection was reportedly influenced by Lauren Sanchez, who didn’t seem concerned about Perry’s recent controversies. In July 2024, Perry returned to music with her feminist anthem Woman’s World, but the song and video received harsh criticism.

She also faced backlash for an alleged environmental violation during the music video shoot. Reports claimed the beach used in the filming was a protected dune ecosystem on a private Spanish island, sparking debates online.

Despite these past incidents, Perry is now preparing for a groundbreaking journey, proving that her influence extends far beyond music.
