Every track is picked by a person who listens to it first. There are no paid placements, no ad breaks and no algorithm deciding what you hear next.

The names that come up most often in our electronic rotation lately.

Electronic music is as old as the machines that make it, but its modern story starts in the 1970s. In Düsseldorf, Kraftwerk built songs from synthesizers and drum machines and showed that electronic sound could be pop. In 1978 Brian Eno named “ambient” music, made to be listened to or ignored.

In the mid-1980s, producers in Detroit — Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson — created techno, while Chicago gave the world house. From there the sound spread through clubs and raves across Europe and split into countless styles:

• Techno: driving, hypnotic and built on repetition
• Electronica and IDM: music for listening as much as dancing
• Downtempo and trip-hop: slower beats, deep atmosphere
• Ambient: texture and space instead of rhythm

Today almost every genre uses electronic tools. On Anti Radio we play the music where they take centre stage.
