Deep House Radio

Deep house is the centre of our sound. When you press play you're joining a stream built for long listening: music that works as well on headphones at 2 a.m. as it does in the background of a working day.

Every track is picked by a person who listens to it first. There are no paid placements, no ad breaks and no algorithm pushing the same ten songs. Alongside the classics you'll hear new releases and independent producers who sent their music straight to us.

Deep house grew out of Chicago in the mid-1980s, when producers such as Larry Heard — recording as Mr. Fingers — slowed house music down and filled it with jazz and soul. Tracks like "Can You Feel It" swapped the hard edges of the drum machine for space, warmth and feeling.

The ingredients have stayed remarkably constant:

• A tempo that usually sits between 118 and 125 BPM
• Extended jazz chords, often on electric piano or soft pads
• Round, melodic basslines that carry as much of the song as the vocal
• Soulful or spoken vocals, used sparingly
• Long, patient arrangements built for the mix rather than the radio edit

Today the name covers everything from classic Chicago and New York records to the melodic, atmospheric sound coming out of Europe, South Africa and beyond. On Anti Radio you'll hear all of it.
