Caleb Shomo, the 33-year-old frontman of Beartooth, publicly came out as gay and confirmed his divorce during a recent appearance on The Breakdown with Nath & Johnny.

The singer said he first confided the news to close friends in September of last year before making a formal public announcement in May. Two months later, he disclosed the end of his 14‑year marriage to wife Fleur Shomo.

“I had already decided, I’m not gonna water myself down at all,” he told the hosts. “I’m going to just do what I wanna do. I’m gonna wear what I wanna wear. I’m gonna sing how I wanna sing. I’m gonna look how I wanna look and just enjoy being an artist that’s allowed to do that, and that has the freedom to do that.”

He added that touring after the announcement was tough, saying many days left him “in a really, really bad place” as he fought for enough energy to step on stage. He emphasized that the band kept releasing new tracks despite the criticism, and the vocal opposition still persisted.

Looking ahead, the frontman revealed he’s channeling the experience into a new record. “I’m working on a new record. I have a lot that I need to say, and a lot that I need to process and work through and that’s the only way I can do it. I’m just trying to think…baby steps, you know?” He hopes the upcoming record will give listeners a glimpse of his healing process.

Beartooth, known for its aggressive metalcore sound, has rarely seen a male lead openly discuss his sexuality, making the disclosure a notable moment in the genre’s culture.

Fans can expect the upcoming material to reflect his personal journey as it unfolds.
