Samuel Monroe Jr. died at age 52 on August 26 after a battle with meningitis and MRSA pneumonia, his family confirmed. The actor, best known for his role in Menace II Society, passed away at a hospital in California.

His mother, Joyce Patton, told TMZ the death occurred around 10:24 p.m. PT and shared a Facebook post asking fans to pray for his three children. She wrote, “I want to thank all of my facebook family and friends new and old for praying for Samuel Monroe, Jr., my son. But today God called him home. Please honor my final request to pray for the family especially his 3 children,”

According to reports, he had been hospitalized in April with meningitis, MRSA pneumonia and other complications, eventually being placed on life support.

The 1993 film Menace II Society gave him early recognition as Ilena’s cousin, and he later appeared in cult favorites like Tales from the Hood, Set It Off and Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.

More recent credits include the sci‑fi thriller Lockdown 2025, the horror title Blood Sacrifice, and the 2022 drama Shine Kings. He also guest‑starred on the sitcom Mann & Wife in 2015 and on two episodes of Black Jesus in 2019.

Fans and fellow actors posted tributes, noting his memorable presence on screen and his dedication to his craft.
