pic3 A few days ago, a music press release landed in my inbox. While I get a lot of promotional emails, this artist’s background and unique sound immediately caught my attention, so I figured it was worth sharing on the blog. The track is called Snake in the Garden by GOHAR, an Armenian-born, Salzburg-based independent artist.

According to the release, GOHAR has a pretty fascinating backstory. She formally trained in opera at the prestigious Mozarteum University Salzburg and was once considered a rising classical talent. However, she decided to break away from traditional boundaries to carve out her own path. Today, she writes, performs, and self-records her music, maintaining complete creative control over her projects.

What is the track about?

Genre-wise, “Snake in the Garden” is a moody blend of alt-pop and electronic rock. You can definitely feel the dramatic, cinematic intensity from her opera background, mixed with subtle Armenian folk influences in the production.

In the email, GOHAR shared the core inspiration behind the track:

“To me, this song is about the people we have in our lives with bad intentions who move in the shadows with the veneer of respectability — it’s about naming the snake in the garden before it poisons everything.”

The lyrics follow this theme of confrontation and exposing hypocrisy perfectly. Take a look at the chorus:

“Take off your mask, show me your face / Say you are a saint, then act like a snake…”

If you appreciate dark, atmospheric tracks with powerful vocals and a bit of an alternative edge, this one is definitely worth a listen. “Snake in the Garden” is out now on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major streaming platforms. You can also catch this track playing live on our radio station’s daily broadcast rotation!
