The Azerbaijani rapper known as “Epi”, whose real name is Akbar Novruzlu, has recently been detained by police in Baku. According to reports shared by Oxu.Az, the Sabail District Court has sentenced him to 30 days of administrative arrest.
The incident started after a complaint was made about a public performance where Epi allegedly used offensive language during a freestyle rap at an outdoor event in the capital. Based on this complaint, he was called in by the police and later taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed that Epi is a user of illegal substances, which became another reason for his arrest. The authorities confirmed that his detention is also connected to drug use, which was uncovered after questioning and additional checks.
As a result, he is now serving a 30-day administrative sentence, and the case remains under active review. While no criminal charges have been officially announced, the situation has drawn public attention, especially within the local hip-hop community.
Some fans are shocked by the news, while others argue that this reflects the growing tension between underground music and public norms in the country. Whether this arrest will impact Epi’s career or fuel his future lyrics is yet to be seen.
