Shailene Woodley revealed that her Mary Jane Watson scenes were removed from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 after filming the 2014 sequel.

The 34-year-old Emmy‑nominated actress said landing the role was a childhood dream, noting, “That was my dream because I really, oh my god, Spider‑Man’s my favorite superhero. Mary Jane was my favorite character growing up. So, when I got it, I was like, ‘This is so exciting.’”

She later recounted a phone call in which she learned the footage would not appear, recalling, “I like three scenes together, me and Andrew Garfield. And then like a year later, they were like, ‘So, you’re not in the movie anymore.’ And I was like, ‘What? What do you mean?’”

According to sources, studio officials explained the cut by saying adding another love interest would confuse the story, especially after Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy dies in the film.

The interview, part of the SAG‑AFTRA Foundation Conversations series, also noted that director Marc Webb had intended to introduce Mary Jane in a third installment, a plan that was later abandoned. Woodley later shared a major update on Big Little Lies season 3 earlier this year.

Fans can expect the actress to continue taking on new projects while the cut footage remains unseen.
