Lily Allen –  the British singer known for her hit “Smile” recently opened up about her emotional journey into motherhood on her podcast, Miss Me?. She shared that she became a mother to her two daughters, Ethel and Marnie, for reasons she now believes were misguided.

Lily admitted, “I think I had children for all the wrong reasons really because I was yearning for unconditional love.” At the height of her music career, she was under immense pressure and felt overwhelmed by her success. In her pursuit of peace and balance, she thought motherhood would help her escape the spotlight and bring a sense of purpose outside of her work. However, Lily acknowledged that she wasn’t fully prepared for the reality of raising children.

Her reflections on motherhood are deeply tied to her own childhood. Lily has been vocal about the impact of her parents’ absence, particularly after her father, Keith Allen, left the family when she was just four years old. These experiences left emotional scars, which have driven her to be more present in her own children’s lives. She explained, “I feel like it left some nasty scars that I’m not willing to repeat on mine.

Now living in New York with her second husband, actor David Harbour, Lily continues to focus on her family while navigating her career in the entertainment industry.
