Julia Garner has confirmed that the long-awaited Madonna biopic is still on track. During an episode of the SmartLess podcast hosted by Sean Hayes, Will Arnett, and Jason Bateman, the Emmy-winning actress revealed that the project is “still happening.”

Garner, who was officially cast to play the iconic pop star, shared her excitement: “I’m a huge fan of Madonna. I grew up listening to her music. This just kind of happened naturally. I knew they were making the film, so I auditioned.”

She emphasized that the project is still in development, adding: “All good things take time.” Fans were relieved to hear this, especially after numerous delays and setbacks over the past few years.

The movie was first announced in 2020, but the production has faced multiple challenges. In 2023, it was reported that Universal Pictures had dropped the film. According to sources close to Madonna, the singer herself was set to direct the biopic. However, she reportedly felt the story was becoming too simple and superficial and decided to put things on hold.

Despite the bumps along the road, Julia Garner’s update has given new hope to fans waiting to see Madonna’s life brought to the big screen.
