Carly Rae Jepsen confirmed she has officially split from manager Scooter Braun and is set to release her seventh studio album Day and Night on September 18, according to a recent THR interview.

The singer said she’s had both good and hard experiences in the industry, adding, “I’ve had some good experiences with people, and I’ve had hard ones too.” She noted it took a while to find the right management team and that she’s now happier than ever.

She explained the break was about artistic direction, stating, “I knew that I was on a different journey than he understood. I wanted to do something a little bit less mainstream, and I liked what he had offered, but I didn’t necessarily think it was what I wanted anymore. I felt like it was just going to be a little bit easier to shake hands, walk away and go let my freak flag fly, so to speak.”

Jepsen added, “I took one of his employees with me,” and clarified she holds no ill will toward Braun despite the split.

Remaining with Interscope Records, she said the label has always been supportive and noted, “I wouldn’t say I had complete agency from the beginning, but not because they were trying to take it away. But I didn’t know how to take it.”

In addition to the upcoming album, she revealed she’s writing music for an upcoming Broadway musical and hinted she may have named her son after a character in *Heated Rivalry*.

Fans can expect a more experimental sound as she embraces her “freak flag” on the new record releasing next Friday.
